University, Academies, Jesuits: Culture and religion are the two main aspects of the public life in Padua in the 16th-17th century. The University, the academies and the Jesuits are the three poles around which these two aspects developed. Yet, although there is a strong bond between these institutions, several times they took different directions, creating a border between the innovative scholars and the traditionalists. The academies acquired the meaning of a synthesis between the University and the Jesuits.
